Brother Bill’s Helping Hand Announces Southern Expansion

In case you missed it, we have exciting news to share!

With the support of our partners at BridgeBuilders in South Dallas and the West Dallas STEM Academy, Brother Bill’s Helping Hand is expanding our service area into southern Dallas. We are opening satellite grocery stores in more neighborhoods and connecting our neighbors to the resources that are essential to breaking the cycle of generational poverty.

By establishing a more local presence, we are making it easier for many of our neighbors to access nutritious food and other life essentials for their families. As a neighborhood resource provider, we aspire to become a part of the fabric of these communities, which will allow us to build relationships built on trust and better serve our neighbors.

"This is huge, and we are so grateful for BridgeBuilders, the West Dallas STEM School, and the North Texas Food Bank for making this possible,” says Andrew Crosby, who joined the Brother Bill’s team in 2022 and is helping make the expansion a reality. “We have seen through our needs assessments and current trends that North Texas families continue to struggle with food insecurity."

Many of our neighbors have been significantly impacted by the rising cost of food and rent due to the pandemic. Therefore, at both sites, Brother Bill's Helping Hand will have a grocery store space open weekly for in-store shopping or pickup via the BBHH e-pantry. While getting groceries, neighbors can also access wraparound services, including health resources, financial assistance, and family enrichment programming.

We have worked closely with our partners to create a sustainable model, one which we anticipate will serve 1,000 families in the first year, with the capacity to be scaled to meet the needs of a growing community.

“We could not do the work we’re doing without the dedication of our staff, volunteers, partners, and loyal donors,” says Executive Director Wes Keyes. “Brother Bill’s Helping Hand is blessed to be able to ensure our neighbors have the essentials of life.”

Last year alone, the BBHH Grocery Store served over 1.2 million pounds of groceries to households from over 90 zip codes. The need in our communities is great, but with our expansion into more Dallas neighborhoods, we are better positioned to meet that need head-on, and serve even more families in the spirit of our visionary founder, Pastor Bill Herrod.

"Every neighbor who walks through our doors can expect to be treated with dignity and respect," says Andrew. "We are here to be a trusted resource."
