BBHH Receives NTFB Capacity Building Grant for the South Dallas Community Market

Dallas, TX — August 17, 2023 - Three Dallas nonprofits - Brother Bill’s Helping Hand, BridgeBuilders, and the North Texas Food Bank – have joined forces to unveil the South Dallas Community Market at 5210 Bexar St #103 in South Dallas. The collaboration is aimed at addressing food insecurity and fostering community well-being. This groundbreaking initiative is bringing a consistent supply of fresh and healthy groceries to families in the Ideal and Bonton communities.

Families in the Ideal and Bonton communities have historically faced challenges in accessing nutritious and affordable food options. The South Dallas Community Market seeks to bridge this gap by providing a reliable source of fresh groceries, enabling residents to make healthier dietary choices and ultimately improve their overall well-being.

The market is funded in part by generous support from the North Texas Food Bank. "The South Dallas Community Market is more than just a marketplace; it's a testament to what can be achieved when organizations come together to uplift communities.” said Wes Keyes, CEO of Brother Bill’s Helping Hand.  The collaboration represents a transformative approach to combating food insecurity and its far-reaching impact on underserved neighborhoods. By aligning the strengths and expertise of the organizations, this partnership embodies the power of collective action to drive positive change.

The core of the South Dallas Community Market's impact lies in its community-centered approach. By building trusted relationships with residents and providing them with a client choice food model, the market aims to create a sustainable approach that addresses the unique needs of the community.

"We believe that sustainable change comes from within the community itself," noted Joey Darwin, CEO of BridgeBuilders. "The South Dallas Community Market is not only about providing groceries; it's about building a platform for community members to be active participants in their own well-being."

To celebrate the launch of this groundbreaking partnership, a special event was held on August 17th, bringing together representatives from Brother Bill's Helping Hand, BridgeBuilders, The North Texas Food Bank, community leaders, and local residents. The event showcased the collective commitment to enhancing the quality of life in these neighborhoods through accessible and nutritious food options.

The South Dallas Community Market stands as a beacon of hope, demonstrating the positive outcomes that result from strategic partnerships focused on sustainable change. This initiative exemplifies the transformative potential of addressing complex social challenges with innovative, community-driven solutions.
